School-wide curriculum

AISJ provides an authentic, standards-based American international education based on the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards, a widely used international set of rigorous standards from the U.S. Dept. of State.

Our curriculum is organized in the Understanding by Design framework on Atlas. We prioritize enduring understandings and transferable skills for students. In order to ensure a high-quality curriculum, AISJ has established a Curriculum Review process. We examine each subject area in depth once every 5 years to make sure that the curriculum is up-to-date and reflects our changing world

We use many different assessments to ensure that students are mastering the learning set out in the curriculum. Some of the assessment tools that we use include:

Benchmark Assessment System (BAS)
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in Grades 2-9
PSAT in Grades 8-11
SAT in Grades 11-12
Advanced Placement (AP) exams on 25 different subjects in high school
We regularly review the data from these assessments to make sure that we are helping each student reach their learning goals.

We are excited to provide our course overviews on Atlas. Sharing the scope and sequence of our curriculum makes us a stronger learning community. This way we can always see together what our students are learning. Please contact Paul Henderson at [email protected] for instructions.
